Get started
Backups start on their own after install.
Install the app
Install Brightshelf Catalog Backup from the Shopify App Store. Your first full backup starts on its own, and Home shows Your first backup is running until it’s done.
Let it run
A full backup runs every night between 2 and 5 AM in your store’s time zone, and product changes are saved as they happen. Use Back up now on Home or in Settings for an extra backup.
Restore a product
Open the product from What changed on Home, pick a version, compare it with the current one, tick the fields to bring back and choose Preview restore. Nothing is written until you confirm.
Undo a bad import (Starter and Pro)
Choose Restore a group of changes, pick the type of change and time window, untick anything you want to keep, then check the dry run. Groups of more than 25 items ask you to type RESTORE to confirm.
Undo a restore
Every restore ends with a report. Choose Undo this restore to put things back as they were before it.
No app embed or theme changes needed. Catalog Backup works inside your Shopify admin only.

FAQ
How often does it back up?
A full backup every night between 2 and 5 AM in your store’s time zone, plus each product change as it happens. Back up now runs an extra one: once a day on Free, as often as you like on Starter and Pro.
How far back can I restore?
7 days on Free and 1 year on Starter and Pro. The latest version of every item is always kept.
Can I restore just a few fields?
Yes. Compare a version with the current product, tick only the fields you want back, and preview before anything is written.
How do I undo a bad import or bulk edit?
On Starter and Pro, use Restore a group of changes. If Home spots a burst of changes it shows This looks like a bulk edit or import with a shortcut. You get a dry run first. On Free you can still restore products one at a time.
Can I get a deleted product back?
Yes. It’s re-created from the version you pick, with its variants, images (from our saved copies), metafields, sales channels and collections. It gets a new Shopify ID, so apps that link to the old ID (reviews, for example) may not follow it.
Can I undo a restore?
Yes. We save every item as it is before restoring it, and the restore report has Undo this restore. Products the restore re-created stay after an undo, and collections keep their restored products and order; the undo screen lists them so you can change them in Shopify.
What happens if my store has more products than my plan covers?
Products already backed up keep being backed up and can still be restored. Products you add later are backed up only while you’re under the plan’s limit.
What happens to my history if I downgrade?
History is trimmed to the new plan’s length after 14 days, so you can change your mind. The app tells you exactly what changes before you confirm.
Does it back up orders, customers or my theme?
No. It backs up products, variants, metafields, collections and images. See what we back up and restore for everything that is and isn’t covered.
Where is my data kept?
The privacy policy explains what we store, where, and for how long.
Troubleshooting
Home says my first backup is still running
The first full backup runs in the background after install and takes longer on big catalogs. You can keep using Shopify as normal. Changes you make meanwhile are still saved.
A product isn’t in the backup
Check your plan’s product limit on Plans. Products added after you reached the limit aren’t backed up until you’re under it or move to a bigger plan.
The restored product has a URL handle ending in “-1”
Another product took the handle in the meantime, so the re-created product gets a suffix. The preview tells you before you restore.
Reviews or other app data didn’t follow a re-created product
A re-created product gets a new Shopify ID. Data owned by other apps (their metafields, for example) can only be changed by those apps. A restore never deletes it.
Stock counts didn’t change after a restore
Stock counts are left alone unless you tick them when restoring a product. If stock moved after your preview, that count isn’t changed.
I can’t re-create a deleted collection
Re-creating a deleted collection isn’t available yet. Its products and their order are kept in the backup.
“Restore a group of changes” is locked
Group restores are on Starter and Pro. On Free you can preview a group restore and restore items one by one from their history.
